Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has expressed serious concern over the ongoing tension, cross-border shelling, and repeated attacks between India and Pakistan. In a statement, he emphasized that such hostilities are not in the interest of either nation and called for immediate and sincere efforts toward sustainable peace.
“We welcome the statement from Indian officials indicating that there is no intention to escalate the conflict,” Husaini said. “We hope this will be followed by concrete progress toward a lasting and meaningful peace.”
He stressed that both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers and are engaged in ongoing struggles to eradicate poverty, eliminate deprivation, and uplift the socio-economic status of their people. “In this context, war and unrest benefit no one and would inflict the greatest harm upon the poorest sections of both societies,” he warned.
Highlighting the humanitarian toll of the conflict, Husaini noted the continued deaths of innocent Indian civilians residing in border areas. “The lives and safety of innocent civilians, especially those in border regions, must be prioritized,” he said. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and urge the government to provide them with all necessary assistance and protection on an urgent basis.”
He also acknowledged media reports about civilian casualties on the Pakistani side, saying, “The death of innocent civilians – especially women and children – irrespective of religion, race, language, nationality, or class – is a tragic loss to humanity. It is the shared moral responsibility of all concerned parties to protect innocent lives under all circumstances.”
Addressing a broader regional challenge, Husaini also touched upon the threat of terrorism. “Terrorism is a serious and long-standing issue in this region. Our country has suffered significant losses due to terror attacks, and Pakistan too has consistently witnessed the devastating effects of terrorism. The time has come for all sides to move beyond narrow and short-term interests and collectively strive for a permanent solution to this pressing issue,” he stated.
In conclusion, Husaini called upon the political and military leaderships of both India and Pakistan to act decisively and swiftly for the cause of peace and security in the region.
