Kolkata: West Bengal’s Minister of Mass Education Extension and Library Services, Siddiqullah Chowdhury, has publicly voiced his deep dissatisfaction and frustration with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). In a bold and exclusive interview with News18, Chowdhury alleged that he was attacked by a group of miscreants during a recent visit to his constituency in Monteswar, and shockingly claimed that these individuals were backed by his own party.
Chowdhury, who also serves as the president of the West Bengal unit of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, didn’t mince words as he criticised the internal factions within TMC. He described the attack as a serious breach of political decorum and a betrayal of party values. “It is absolutely unacceptable that party-backed goons are being allowed to operate freely and intimidate even senior leaders,” he said.
The incident, which reportedly occurred while he was meeting with constituents, has sparked significant political tremors. According to Chowdhury, the assailants acted with impunity, and despite raising the issue with higher party leadership, no action has been taken so far.
Issuing a stern ultimatum, Chowdhury warned that if those responsible for the attack are not immediately identified and expelled from the party by July 9, he will lead a massive protest rally in Kolkata on July 10. Taking it a step further, he declared that he will resign from the Trinamool Congress if justice is not delivered.
“This is not just about me. If the party fails to discipline such elements, it shows that lawlessness is being tolerated at the highest levels. I am prepared to take a strong stand,” he added.
His strong stance has created ripples within the TMC, with many political observers watching closely to see how the party leadership will respond. The situation underscores growing internal tensions within the party ahead of critical political developments in the state.
As of now, no official statement has been issued by the Trinamool Congress regarding Chowdhury’s allegations or his resignation threat.
