Hyderabad, July 28: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) floor leader in Telangana Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi on Saturday questioned withdrawal of model code of conduct violation case against union home minister Amit Shah.
Owaisi raised the issue during his speech on the state budget and wanted to know why the MCC case was withdrawn against Amit Shah and another central minister G. Kishan Reddy.
The AIMIM leader wanted to know from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy if the case was withdrawn against Amit Shah because he is a friend of the Chief Minister’s ‘bade bhai’.
Akbaruddin Owaisi was taunting Revanth Reddy over calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘bade bhai’.
Amit Shah and Kishan Reddy were booked by police in the old city during the election campaign as children were involved in their election rally. The police early this month withdrew the case against them.
The AIMIM leader said the MCC violation case against him was not withdrawn because he is a Muslim.
Responding to Akbaruddin’s remarks, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said it was on the complaint of Congress party that MCC was registered against Amit Shah and Kishan Reddy. He said the party would knock on the doors of the court on removing their names from the chargesheet.
Akbaruddin also raised the issue of alleged highhandedness by police in the old city. He said law and order is on the verge of collapse in the city. He asked how can police beat anyone just because they are standing outside at 11 p.m.
The AIMIM leader also questioned the decision of the Congress government to select the old city for the pilot project for power distribution by Adani company. He wanted to know why Chief Minister’s constituency Kodangal was not selected. “You could have selected constituencies of ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy or Sridhar Babu,” he said.
He sought to understand the rationale behind limiting the project to the old city, emphasizing the need for a broader and more inclusive approach.
“We are called thieves. We are not thieves. There is no theft in the old city. There are only allegations. Theft is there everywhere. Leakages and pilferages are there from distribution to power supply to consumers,” he said.
He claimed that the Chief Minister, during his visit to Delhi, confirmed handing over the pilot project in the old city to Adani but Deputy Chief Minister and energy minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka is denying it.
He asked the government to bring development and prosperity to the old city by completing projects such as Charminar pedestrianisation, beautification of Laad Bazar, reconstruction of Charminar Hospital building which is in dilapidated, road widening and addressing the issue of traffic jam.
Earlier, AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain opposed the pilot project of power bill collection in the old city being entrusted to Adani Group.
“Our party is opposed to the privatization of the power sector namely the GENCO, TRANSCO, and other discoms, in the name of entrusting the power bill to Adani Power in the old city of Hyderabad and so-called power projects,” he said.
