Hyderabad: Mohammed Hammaduddin, the State Secretary of the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Telangana, has demanded that the government immediately release the pending bills for post-matric scholarships and fee reimbursements for minority students.
While addressing the issue, he highlighted the Telangana High Court’s strong dissatisfaction with the state government, particularly the Finance Department, regarding the delay in fund allocation.
Key Concerns Raised:
Withholding Certificates: Private colleges are withholding students’ original certificates citing non-receipt of government funds. Hammaduddin lamented that this is pushing the students’ futures into darkness.
Lack of Supervision: Despite clear government orders stating that certificates should not be withheld, he criticised the Education Department for failing to monitor and enforce these rules.
Bureaucratic Delays: Although the Minority Welfare Department submitted proposals for funds, the Finance Department’s delay in clearing them is causing severe financial distress to poor students.
Loss of Opportunities: Without their original certificates, students are missing out on higher education opportunities and employment, a loss that “no one can compensate for.”
Hammaduddin stated that forcing students to approach the Human Rights Commission or courts for their basic rights is a failure of the government. He demanded that the Minority Welfare Department must immediately establish a Grievance Redressal Cell and a Toll-Free Number, as directed by the High Court.
The government must take a positive decision before the next hearing on March 3.
He warned that if the issue is not resolved, the SIO will intensify its struggle on behalf of the students.
