World Urdu Day Awards 2024 Announced: Mohammad Khalil Wins Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Ali Ahmad Idrisi Bags Allama Iqbal Award

New Delhi, August 17: The World Urdu Day Awards Committee convened a meeting under the chairmanship of Professor Abdul Haq, Professor Emeritus at Delhi University, at Daryaganj here. Professor Abdul Haq presided over the meeting online as he was unwell.

The meeting, which saw the participation of prominent figures like Professor Tauqeer Ahmad Khan (Former Head, Urdu Department, Delhi University), Javed Akhtar (Former Chief Sub-Editor, UNI Urdu Service), Masoom Muradabadi (Editor, Roznama Jadeed Khabar), Mohammad Arif Iqbal (Editor, Urdu Book Review), Israr Ahmad Ujjaini (Co-ordinator, World Urdu Day Organizing Committee), and Mohammad Owais Gorakhpuri, was held to deliberate on the proposed nominees for this year’s awards.

Following a thorough discussion, the committee announced the recipients of the World Urdu Day Awards 2024. Mohammad Khalil, former editor of the New Delhi-based Urdu magazine Science Ki Duniya, was honored with the Prof. Mohammad Shafi Alig Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his significant contributions to scientific literature in Urdu. Dr. Ali Ahmad Idrisi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Urdu at Delhi University, received the Allama Iqbal Award for Literature.

Other notable awardees include:

– Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Siddiqui (alias Danish Noorpuri): Hafeez Merathi World Urdu Day Award for Poetry

– Shahidul Islam (Delhi): Mahfoozur Rahman World Urdu Day Award for Journalism

– Sagheer Ahmad (Jaipur): Dr. Abul Faiz Usmani World Urdu Day Award for the Promotion of Urdu Language

– Dr. Shakeel Akhtar (Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi): Ameen Sayani World Urdu Day Award for Electronic Media

– Vivek Shukla (Delhi): Pandit Deonarayana Pandey World Urdu Day Award for National Integration

– Naima Jafri Pasha (Delhi): Noor Jehan Sarwat World Urdu Day Award for Urdu Language and Literature

– Anwaul Wafa Azmi (Delhi): Mirza Ghalib World Urdu Day Award for Poetry

– Mujahid Syed (Lucknow): Maulana Usman Farqleet World Urdu Day Award for Journalism

– Dr. T.R. Raina (Jammu): Naseeruddin Hashmi World Urdu Day Award for Research

– Ansari Shakeel Mustafa (Malegaon): Maulvi Ismail Merathi World Urdu Day Award for Children’s Literature

– A.U. Asif (Delhi): Imdad Sabri World Urdu Day Award for Journalism

– Syed Tanveer Hasan Naqvi (Amroha): Qazi Adeel Abbasi World Urdu Day Award for the Promotion of Urdu Language

– Maulana Siraj Ahmad Qadri (Khalilabadi): Jigar Muradabadi World Urdu Day Award for Seerat Studies

– Dr. Misbah Ahmad Siddiqui Alig (Amroha): Maulvi Abdul Haq World Urdu Day Award for the Promotion of Urdu

– Salman Khalilabadi (Sant Kabir Nagar): Akbar Allahabadi World Urdu Day Award for the Promotion of Urdu

– Z. Hasan (Mathura): Allama Yasin World Urdu Day Award for the Promotion of Urdu

– Ishrat Zaheer (Delhi): Joginder Pal World Urdu Day Award for Short Story Writing

– Mohammad Tasleem (Delhi): Munshi Premchand World Urdu Day Award for Journalism

– Dr. Khalid Raza Khan (Delhi): Maulana Abdul Majid Daryabadi World Urdu Day Award for Journalism

– Maulana Mohammad Rahmani (Delhi): Maulana Abul Kalam Azad World Urdu Day Award for the Promotion of Education and Training

– M.W. Ansari (IPS, Bhopal): Sir Syed Ahmad Khan World Urdu Day Award for the Promotion of Urdu Language

– Wali Ahmad Khan (Ahmedabad): Professor Jagannath Azad World Urdu Day Award for the Promotion of Urdu Language and Literature

– Al-Balagh Publications (Delhi): Munshi Nawal Kishore World Urdu Day Award for Printing and Publication

The convener of the World Urdu Day Organizing Committee, Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, expressed his gratitude to the participants and extended his congratulations to all the awardees, hoping that their contributions will further promote the Urdu language.

The awards ceremony is anticipated to significantly boost the cultural and literary landscape, reinforcing the importance of Urdu in various fields.
