New Delhi: A meeting of the World Urdu Day Organising Committee was held here today under the chairmanship of eminent Iqbal scholar Dr. Abdul Haq, Professor Emeritus, Delhi University. The meeting reviewed the state of Urdu education and teaching at the national level, and it was decided that this year’s World Urdu Day annual event will be themed “A Roadmap for the Promotion of Urdu.”
In his presidential address, Professor Abdul Haq said: “We must encourage children as much as possible towards Urdu education. Only by teaching our children Urdu can we preserve this language.”
He further cautioned: “Let it not be that due to our negligence, the system of Urdu education and teaching becomes weak, and we are left lamenting it.”
Senior journalist and writer Masoom Moradabadi remarked on the occasion: “Deprivation of the Urdu language is, in fact, deprivation of our cultural heritage. Parents must ensure that their children are not deprived of Urdu education.”
Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, while speaking, stated: “To advance the Urdu movement, the Urdu Development Organisation is working with full dedication, and this work will continue without any hindrance.”
He praised the tireless efforts of Dr. Parwaz Uloom, noting that even while unwell, he has approached the judiciary in favour of RTI and Urdu. “We are deeply grateful to him, for he is the backbone of our movement.”
Participants in the meeting included journalist Wafa Azmi, Dr. Obaidullah Chaudhary, Dr. Muhammad Mustamar, Dr. Khurshid Alam, Muhammad Ahmad Danish, Muhammad Tasleem Raja, Muhammad Tariq, and Muhammad Imran Kannauji, among others.
