Young Man Dies in Police Custody Days Before Wedding in Bihar, Family Alleges Brutality

Siwan, Bihar — In a tragic turn of events, Mohammad Shehzad Haq, a resident of Mohammadpur, Bheethi, Goriakothi in Siwan district, died today while in police custody. The 28-year-old had returned from Makkah, Saudi Arabia, just weeks earlier, where he had been employed at Masjid al-Haram. His wedding was scheduled to take place on May 10, reported the Hindustan Times.
According to family members, Shehzad was arrested by police on May 4, 2025, under unclear circumstances. Soon after his arrest, he was reportedly admitted to a hospital in Patna due to severe injuries on his head and body, allegedly sustained while in custody.
Shehzad remained hospitalized and fought for his life for six days before succumbing to his injuries on May 11. His death has triggered outrage and sorrow among locals and human rights activists, who are now demanding a fair and transparent investigation into the matter.
The family alleges custodial torture and has called for immediate action against the police officials involved. As news of his death spreads, calls for justice are echoing across social media platforms.
An FIR and a judicial inquiry into the custodial death are being demanded.
