Zakat Centre India–Patna Disburses ₹6.4 Million among the Needy in Two and a Half Years

Nearly ₹1 Million Approved in the Second Outreach Phase of 2026

Patna:  Zakat, one of the five fundamental pillars of Islam, is not merely a religious obligation but also a powerful socio-economic instrument for poverty alleviation, social justice, and human dignity. However, due to the absence of an organised institutional framework, its long-term transformative potential has often remained underutilised.

Recognising this need, Zakat Centre India (ZCI) was established in 2022 with the objective of institutionalising the collection and distribution of zakat through a transparent, systematic, and sustainable mechanism. The organisation is actively engaged in areas such as poverty alleviation, education, livelihood generation, and community empowerment.

One of the distinctive features of Zakat Centre India is that all its office bearers and members are themselves donors and render their services voluntarily. The organisation’s vision goes beyond providing temporary relief; it seeks to empower beneficiaries to become self-reliant, enabling today’s recipients to become tomorrow’s contributors.

Unlike the conventional practice where zakat is often distributed individually during the month of Ramadan, ZCI pools zakat contributions and channels them strategically throughout the year based on verified needs, transparency, and long-term impact. In accordance with Islamic teachings, every eligible Muslim is required to contribute at least 2.5 per cent of annual savings toward the welfare of deserving individuals, and ZCI strives to transform this obligation into a sustainable movement for social development.

The Patna Chapter of Zakat Centre India has been playing a significant role in advancing this mission at the grassroots level.

As part of the second outreach phase of the financial year 2026, a review meeting was held on 10 May 2026 at the Zakat Centre office in Alinagar, Patna, to evaluate applications received from economically weaker and deserving individuals.

Following detailed surveys, verification, and careful deliberations, financial assistance amounting to approximately ₹9.97 lakh was approved for 30 beneficiaries. The assistance was extended under the following categories:

Support for Small Businesses: To help individuals establish sustainable sources of livelihood and income-generating activities.

Financial Assistance (Muwasat): Including support for medical treatment, debt relief, widows, and families facing acute financial hardship.

Educational Scholarships: To assist deserving students in continuing or pursuing their education despite economic challenges.

With this latest round of assistance, the ZCI-Patna has disbursed nearly ₹6.4 million (64 lakh rupees) among deserving individuals and families over the past two and a half years.

Through transparent governance, need-based assistance, and a commitment to sustainable empowerment, ZCI-Patna is demonstrating how zakat, when managed with institutional vision and strategic planning, can become a catalyst for lasting social transformation.
