Bengaluru, October 22, 2023: Every conscious person feels his responsibility to create awareness about the ongoing Palestine-Israeli war and bring the right perspective before the audience. Exposing the oppressor and raising sympathy and support for the oppressed is the least the distant audience can do.
“5 Broken Cameras” is a compelling documentary that sheds light on the Palestinian resistance and the recent acts of ethnic cleansing by the state of Israel was screened here.
The documentary follows Emad Burnat, a Palestinian farmer who documented the Palestinian struggle using five different cameras over several years in the West Bank village of Bil’in. The film exposes the challenges faced by the Palestinian people and the controversial actions of the Israeli settler-colonizer state, including the expansion of illegal settlements and displacement of Palestinian families.
The screening underscores growing awareness and solidarity among Indian youth with the Palestinian cause. It was shown at film festivals in 2011 and placed in general release by Kino Lorber in 2012. The film won a 2012 Sundance Film Festival award, the Golden Apricot at the 2012 Yerevan International Film Festival, Armenia, for Best Documentary Film, and the 2013 International Emmy Award. It was also nominated for a 2013 Academy Award.
Screening of this film was organised by the All India Students Association (AISA) Karnataka, attracting the students community.
