Patna, Dec. 25: There is no breakthrough in the murder case of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Siwan leader Arif Jamal who was shot dead at his fast food centre in Qutubpur Chhapra under Hussainganj police station of Siwan on Saturday night. He was a resident of nearby Data Nagar. His funeral rites were carried out on Sunday.
Arif Jamal, 30, an ex-district convener of AIMIM, fought the Assembly election on the third front ticket from Raghunathpur. A father of three sons, Jamal was third among his four brothers. His father Qutubuddin Ahmad is an ex-Sarpanch.
Local police have apprehended a few suspects but there was no breakthrough even after two days of the case though it claimed that the culprits would be arrested soon. Police said on Sunday that it was waiting for a formal complaint.
SP Shailesh Kumar Sinha said a team has been constituted under SDPO Firoz Alam to investigate the case and arrest the culprits. Police are trying to identify the culprits with the help of CCTV footage of adjoining areas.
The police are yet to ascertain the reasons for the murder. It is anticipated that Arif might have been targeted due to any land dispute. Political rivalry may be the other reason for this gruesome case.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi consoled the family and assured it to fight a legal battle. AIMIM youth state president Advocate Aadil Hasan, wife of ex-MP Shahabuddin Hina Shahab, MLA Harishankar Yadav and many social and political leaders attended the funeral. AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman expressed his anguish over the murder.
