New Delhi, April 26: In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Delhi Police, in partnership with GAIL India and NGO Shikhar Organization for Development, has inaugurated two public libraries in the Jamia Nagar area, specifically located at Okhla Vihar Metro Police Station and RK Puram Police Station. These libraries, equipped with coaching facilities, have emerged as vital resources for students hailing from underprivileged backgrounds. Notably, their success is evidenced by eight students securing prestigious government jobs, while an impressive 27 students have gained admission to various professional courses within Delhi and beyond. GAIL India’s financial assistance has played a pivotal role in the establishment of these libraries.
Initiated by NGO Shikhar Organization for Development, the library project was conceived in 2012 with support from GAIL India and the Delhi Police. The primary objectives include assisting underprivileged children in completing their education, thereby enabling them to achieve their aspirations and contribute positively to society. Moreover, the project aims to foster a more harmonious relationship between the public and law enforcement agencies, thus reducing mistrust and enhancing community safety.
Delhi Police’s community program, renowned globally for its effectiveness, has received substantial support from public-private partnerships. Notably, major corporations such as GAIL India have lent their support to ensure the success of this initiative. Over two thousand students have already benefitted from free tutoring sessions held at RK Puram and Okhla Vihar Metro stations. These sessions were specifically designed to assist students in preparing for personal tests required for entrance into professional courses and government job placements. This year, 27 students from the libraries have gained admission to prestigious programs such as Mass Media, BA Hons, B.Ed., and EET. Noteworthy achievements include Tawhid Saifi’s admission to the MBBS program at BSA Hospital and Vikash’s admission to IIT Delhi.
Additionally, eight students, both male and female, have successfully secured government jobs, marking significant milestones in their careers. Notable placements include those of Abhishek Kumar, Samit Malik, and Rishabh Posak in SSC MTS, Manish Kumar Tiwari in IB, Faizan Safi in Agniveer, Goldie as a constable in Delhi Police, Parveena in CISF, and Miss Neha securing a clerical job at UCO Bank.
Mohammad Nadeem Akhtar, general secretary of the Shikhar Organization, emphasized the transformative impact of education on underprivileged youth. He highlighted the crucial role played by the Delhi Police Public Library project in empowering girls and fostering their confidence and self-determination.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the initiative, Sahiyuram Yadav, the SHO of Okhla Vihar police station, commended the positive impact of the Delhi Police Public Library on the community. Similarly, Ravinder Tyagi, SHO of R.K. Puram station, expressed his commitment to supporting students academically and ensuring their educational needs are met effectively.
