Int’l Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women

OIC reiterates its resolve to end all forms of violence against womenfolk

Jeddah Nov. 25: On the eve of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women observed on November 25th every year, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) reiterated on Friday its steadfast dedication to empowering women and putting an end to all forms of violence against them.

The day serves as a somber reminder of the flagrant violations of women’s and girls’ rights that take place worldwide, especially in conflict-ridden areas where women are the most vulnerable. The international theme for this year is “Investing to prevent violence against women and girls,” which emphasizes how crucial it is to provide funding for preventive measures to proactively stop violence at its source.

Hissein Brahim Taha, OIC Secretary General, highlighted the importance of the OIC’s evaluation of the progress made by OIC Member States in their efforts to eradicate violence against women.

Today, as a result of the vicious Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, this occasion is being remembered amid yet another horrifying humanitarian crisis. Taha reaffirmed the OIC’s categorical denunciation of the war crimes that the Israeli occupation is still committing against the Palestinian people. He also urged the international community to take all necessary steps to put an end to these crimes and to put pressure on Israel to respect international humanitarian law and allow for a ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian access to meet the urgent needs of the people of Gaza and the surrounding regions.
