Jamia Hamdard organizes Int’l Seminar on Recent Advancements in Chemical and Life Sciences, RACLS-2023

New Delhi, October 29:  The Department of Chemistry, Jamia Hamdard in collaboration with Indian Society of Analytical Scientists-Delhi Chapter (ISAS-DC) organized an international seminar on Recent Advancements in Chemical and Life Sciences, RACLS-2023. This seminar served as a platform for leading scientists, scholars, and researchers to convene, exchange knowledge, and delve into the latest developments in the fields of Chemical and Life Sciences.

Mr. Imran Hussain, Minister for Food and Supply, Government of Delhi, graced the event as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the importance of scientific research in his address.

The presidential address by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afsar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard highlighted the strides made by Jamia Hamdard in the areas of science and technology.

Prof. S. Raisuddin, Dean, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, and Prof. M. S. Alam, HoD Chemistry welcomed the delegates. Prof. G. S. Kapur, executive chairman of ISAS-DC, and Dr. Christopher talked about the activities of ISAS-DC and urged the delegates to engage in meaningful scientific endeavours, to address global challenges.

Dr. Faizan Ahmed, an INSA Senior Scientist and the Guest of Honor for the event talked about how Chemical and Life Sciences applications can create greener technologies with the least impact on the environment.

Prof. Rakesh K. Khandal, the keynote speaker, shared his profound knowledge in the field of chemical sciences and emphasized the potential and challenges of generating renewable chemicals based on ingredients derived from renewable feedstocks instead of crude Petroleum.

An array of distinguished experts addressed critical issues pertaining to sustainability, technology, and environmental management.

Prof. A. S. Sarpal, Department of Food Sciences and Bioprocess, Brazil, focused on the pivotal role of seaweed (Macroalgae) cultivation within the framework of the G20 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), emphasizing its potential to enhance future food security.

Prof. Shamim Ahmed, former Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard discussed the potential applications of nanotechnology, specifically quantum dots.

Dr. Manoj Upreti, representing CRM at the Indian Oil Corporation, offered a solution-driven presentation on the biotech-based, environmentally friendly management of oily sludge in petroleum refineries, addressing a pressing concern for the industry’s sustainability.

Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Louisville, shared critical findings on the link between environmental exposure and cardiovascular disease, underscoring the profound implications of environmental factors on public health.

These presentations collectively emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative strategies in addressing global challenges across multiple domains, from agriculture and technology to energy and public health.

The afternoon sessions featured a wide array of oral talks, from researchers addressing important and diverse research areas.

The seminar also featured an extensive poster presentation, with a total of 92 posters from various scientific fields. A panel of distinguished experts meticulously evaluated and scrutinized the posters to identify the best among them.

RACLS-2023 exemplified the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange, reaffirming the commitment of Jamia Hamdard and ISAS-DC to advance science and technology for the betterment of society. The seminar provided a significant platform for fostering scientific progress and enriching the understanding of Chemical and Life Sciences.
