Markazi Taleemi Board Hosts Workshop on Modernizing Madrasa Curriculum

4 May 2024: The Markazi Taleemi Board, a branch of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Education Board, organized a comprehensive workshop titled ‘Curriculum for Madrasas’ at the JIH headquarters in New Delhi. The event aimed to address the evolving educational landscape and the need for adapting Islamic education to modern times.

In his keynote address, JIH President Syed Sadatullah Husaini emphasized the accelerated pace of knowledge doubling, now occurring in 7 to 9 months due to technological advancements. He stressed the importance of aligning Islamic education with this rapid change, advocating for a shift towards lifelong learning and skill-oriented education.

Highlighting the challenges faced by Madrasas, Secretary Syed Tanveer Ahmed called for addressing the vacuum created over the past decade and redefining the role of Madrasas in contemporary society. He lamented the dominance of Western education and its impact on spiritual and behavioral aspects, underscoring the need for spiritual revival.

The workshop featured discussions led by experts such as Salman Asad, Badrul Islam, and Mujtaba Farooq, who explored topics including curriculum design, present challenges, and the mindset opposed to Islamic teachings. Maulana Tahir Madni presided over sessions aimed at devising a model curriculum to meet future challenges while preserving Islamic principles.

Distinguished scholars from institutions nationwide, including Aligarh Muslim University, Darul Uloom Deoband, and Jamia Millia Islamia, participated, sharing insights and experiences. The workshop underscored the imperative for Madrasas to adapt to changing educational paradigms and societal demands to remain relevant in today’s world.

The event concluded with a commitment to continue similar initiatives across India to disseminate the message of modernizing Madrasa education and ensuring its alignment with contemporary needs.
