Jaipur: In a united show of resistance, the Minority Advocates Association organized a protest discussion on Saturday, opposing the Wakf Amendment Bill 2024, presently pending with the Joint Parliamentary Committee. The event, held at Muslim Musafirkhana, saw a significant turnout of lawyers and social activists. It was presided over by former District Judge Mohammad Hanif Khan, who expressed concerns over far-reaching implications of the bill.
Prominent voices at the event included Syed Shahid Hasan, former Chairman of Bar Council of Rajasthan; Syed Saadat Ali, Chairman of Association for Protection of Civil Rights (Rajasthan Chapter); Munazir Islam, Secretary of the association; Sardar Tarvinder Singh, President of Transport Nagar Gurudwara; Hitesh Rahi, State President of Dr. Ambedkar Advocate Welfare Institution; and Babulal Bairawa, along with Abdul Salam Johar, Convener of Muslim Progressive Federation. Together, they unanimously condemned the Wakf Amendment Bill, urging the government to junk the bill.
Advocate Ikramullah Khan, State President of the Minority Advocates Association, argued that the proposed amendments constitute an attack on the constitutional rights of the Muslim community. He warned that the bill’s consequences would be felt deeply by future generations of Muslims, affecting their social and legal rights. Secretary Mohammad Abid joined in the call for immediate withdrawal of the bill, stressing that its implementation would be disastrous for the community’s interests.
Other distinguished speakers included Mohammad Aslam Khan Advocate, State President of Minority Development Institution; Abdul Wahid Nakvi Advocate, President of Wakf Board Bar Association; and Sirajuddin Badshah Advocate, Secretary of the association. Women advocates Uzma Parveen and Akbar Ali Advocate also contributed to the discussion, voicing their concerns over the legislation’s potential damage to community rights.
The program coordinators – Abdul Ahad Nakvi Advocate, Riyaz Ahmed Advocate, Shahjad Ahmed Advocate, and Waseem Khan Advocate – thanked all the attendees for their participation, underscoring the event’s importance in raising awareness and mobilizing resistance against the amendment.
The gathering sent a clear message to the government: the Minority Advocates Association will continue to fight for the protection of constitutional rights and demands that the controversial Wakf Amendment Bill 2024 be withdrawn to safeguard the interests of the Muslim community.
