Workshop Held on Protection of Waqf and Registration on the Umeed Portal
Lucknow: A workshop was organised at Jama Masjid, Munshipuliya, Indira Nagar here today under the joint auspices of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Lucknow city, and the Muslim Welfare Society, with the purpose of guiding the Mutawallis (managers) regarding the protection of Waqf properties and their registration on the Umeed Portal.
Addressing the programme, Maulana Mohammad Tahir Madani, Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Uttar Pradesh (East), spoke in detail about the Shari’ah status of Waqf and its importance. He said that Waqf properties are a trust (Amanah), and their protection is the collective responsibility of the entire Ummah. If we show negligence in their protection and registration, it will lead to communal loss.

Advocate Aftab Ahmed, while shedding light on various aspects of the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, said that after the enforcement of this law, a written Waqf deed will now be mandatory for every new Waqf, which will be prepared by the Waqif (donor). The old Waqf properties that are registered in surveys or with the Waqf Board should be uploaded to the Umeed Portal immediately, and those properties which have not yet been recorded can also be registered through this portal.
Engineer Syed Mohammad Shuaib, former CEO of the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, said that in the recent Supreme Court decision, it has been clearly stated that the registration of all existing Waqf properties on the Umeed Portal is mandatory by 5 December 2025.
Ejaz Ahmed, Executive Officer of the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, and S.M. Afzal Kashif elaborated on the process of registration on the Umeed Portal and provided guidance to resolve the technical issues faced by the Mutawallis.
On this occasion, a helpline number (9569461871) was issued by the Waqf Cell of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind UP (East), so that Mutawallis can seek assistance in case of any technical difficulty related to registration.
