Kurnool, Dec. 20: The Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Andhra Pradesh leaders recently visited Dr. Abdul Haq Urdu University (AHUUK), expressing serious concerns about its poor infrastructure, facilities, funding, financial constraints, faculty recruitment, retention, student welfare, support, career growth, declining enrollment, and prospects of land grabbing.
AHUUK is named after Dr. Abdul Haq, a renowned educationist and philanthropist from Rayalaseema and the founder of Osmania College in Kurnool.
The previous state government allocated 144 acres of land for the permanent site of AHUUK at Orvakal on the Kurnool-Nandyal Highway. AHUUK, the only state-run Urdu university in the region since the bifurcation of AP and Telangana, dedicated to promoting Urdu language and culture, is now struggling for survival.
The government sanctioned around 18 crores for the construction of the university, but released only 1.5 crores. This financial setback has halted construction for the past four years. Now, the university land is facing land-grabbing. After many representations and demands, the government has sanctioned 5 crores.
State Secretaries Aamir Fahed and Abdul Aleem visited the university campus, discussed campus status and future developments with VC Prof. Fazal ur Rahman and Principal Shafi, and organized a roundtable discussion on university development and land-grabbing with local activists and media.
They presented a memorandum to Deputy CM Amzath Basha in Vijayawada, demanding a compound wall around the allotted land, a hostel at the temporary campus building, strict action against those involved in land-grabbing, completing pending infrastructural works, and addressing existing facilities.
